About my F-100
After being out of the car hobby for around twenty or so years, I found myself right in the thick of things after I got a phone call one day. The call I got was one that nobody ever wants to get, it was a call that told me one of my best friends had passed on. Harry and I went way back to high school and budded and paled around for a lot of years and during all those years, he owned a 55 Ford F-100, He drove it for awhile and then took it off the road with intentions of redoing it someday. Well that someday never came and for about twenty or so years, I tried buying it from him, but he would never sell it to me, always coming up with some excuse, like " you're going to chop it" or " you're going to paint it yellow or red or some weird color, what color do you want it be, I asked and I'll paint it that color. Even after that he came up with, " you'll put a Chevy engine in it", sell it to me and I'll put a Ford in it I told him. He still wouldn't sell it to me. Well at his funeral I was ask to come down to his house and bring the truck home before people started to stop and ask if it was for sale, I felt kind of funny bringing the truck to my house and I let them know that, I just didn't want people thinking that I was taking advantage of a bad situation and they told me, no, you don't understand, Harry left the truck to you. So after all those years of trying to buy it, he ended up giving it to me, not the way I wanted to get it. Harry was right, I did chop it, 4" and I did put a Chevy engine in it, he was also right about the color, but the color was his choosing, you see, when I asked him what color it should be , he told me the color should be the same as it was when he got it , which was blue. Know I don't have anything against blue I just didn't think that the truck looked good that color, so as I'm chopping the top, I looked up and told Harry that since he gave me the truck and didn't sell it to me , I was going to do some things that he didn't want me to do, however when it got around the time to decide what color to paint it, I compromised with him, I choose a blue that I could live with, which is turquoise. It is a blue isn't it? The engine is out of a 1987 IROC Camaro (350 TPI FI), the tranny is out of the same car (700r4), the front end is a Dodge Diplomat. the truck has 4 wheel disc brakes and is lowered 5". There are numerous modifications done to the body but most people don't notice them. My parking lights are 63 Nova, while my taillights are 95 dodge neon third brake lights. It took me 4 years to build this truck, it was the first car that I have worked on in over twenty years. I didn't know if I could do it but after some trial and errors, I was able to put it on the road. I did everything on the truck, along with some help from a couple of friends, except for the welding of the front end, I value my life to much to trust my welding then. Since putting the truck back on the road, I have driven it almost 18000 miles in two and a half years, going to car shows and cruise nights. In those 18000 miles it has went from shows in Massachusetts to Heresy,Pa and to Charlotte, NC , rain or shine and has won over 25 awards. So if you ever see this truck on a trailer, call the cops because it is stolen.
